Volvo has announced plans to produce a plug-in hybrid vehicle in 2012, and will show a prototype ALL-Electric C30 at the Frankfurt Auto Show. From the Press Release: NEW YORK, July 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Volvo Car Corporation has chosen advanced, American-made lithium-ion battery systems designed and produced by Ener1, Inc. (NASDAQ:HEV) to power a pair of plug-in hybrid V70 demonstration cars being put through their paces across Europe this fall as part of a rigorous development program leading up to the planned 2012 commercial launch of a production plug-in model. The project is a joint venture between Volvo and Vattenfall, one of Europe's largest electric utility companies and a leading proponent of electric vehicle infrastructure build-out.With a single charge from an ordinary household socket, the cars can run up to 31 miles (50 kilometers) using only battery electric power, more than meeting average daily commuting needs for the vast majority of drivers. Volvo sales nationwide in July were 26% higher than last year. That is not a small feat in these times, and the majority of sales can be attributed to SAFE AND SOUND. Here are the numbers: BMW: -27% M/Benz: -22% Audi: -6% Lexus: -25% Infiniti: -23% Acura: -33% And with Volvo showing a gain of 26%, that marks 2 months in a row for positive gains. The value of nearly $0 ownership costs for 5 years is just too good to pass up. There are not a lot of new 2009 cars left at Lehman Volvo, in fact C70s and V70s are completely sold out (although 2010s are on the way!) Not a real surprise here, since this program has been a hit. SAFE AND SOUND warranty coverage continues through August for all new 2009 Volvos. 5 Year warranty including wear and tear coverage as well as maintenance for up to 60,000 miles.
