Jason's Journal: The Importance of Using Volvo Genuine Wiper Blades

While many people usually do not think of wiper blades as a safety feature on a vehicle, I can assure you they are! An unclean or obscured windshield is a hazard to you, your Volvo, and other drivers. According to Volvo Cars, approximately 20% of all road accidents are related to lack of visibility. We depend on wipers to remove rain, snow and dirt in all degrees of weather and at various speeds. 

Understanding the importance of wiper blades, Volvo Cars tests its wiper blades in several different ways before the wipers are approved as “Volvo Genuine Wiper Blades.” Volvo Cars examines several properties, including the:
  • quality of the rubber used—a higher level of graphite decreases friction and noise and increases the lifetime of the blades
  • performance of the wiping while the vehicle is at high speeds, in addition to when the vehicle is stationary
  • structural resistance to impacts
  • resistance to corrosion, ozone, UV Rays and chemicals
  • performance in both hot and cold temperatures
Volvo Cars recommends inspecting the vehicle’s wiper blades at least twice a year, and replacing them at least once a year. To inspect your wiper blades, lift each wiper off the windshield and check for tears, chips, rigid wear and/or continuous windshield streaking. If you have any of these conditions, your wiper blades should be replaced.

Here is your Volvo Safety...

What you see above is the result of an accident between a tractor trailer, a Volvo XC60...and another tractor trailer. If you think the end result is devastating, just be aware...the driver and passenger of the Volvo XC60 walked away from this accident with only minor injuries. This accident happened in Brussels a couple of days ago, here is some of the report from their newspaper: A car containing a mother and daughter crashed into the back of a truck. The vehicle disappeared completely under the rear end of the heavy truck. To make matters worse, a heavy truck crashed into the Volvo XC60 from behind. The result was a lot of scrap. The emergency services had to rescue the two women from the car, who were trapped for more than one hour. The fire brigade had to cut off the roof of the vehicle before being able to set them free.
