Meet the Future Face of Volvo

Staring at you is the new Volvo Concept Coupe, which will debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. From it's futuristic lights, to its sweeping lines, to it's retro-iron mark grille, the Concept Coupe represents a new direction for future Volvo designs.
"The vanilla days are over" is the statement of Thomas Ingenlath, Volvo's new Senior Vice President of design. Surely, there is nothing vanilla about this stunning concept. You might just see a few of these elements in some up-coming Volvos. Once again, the future of Volvo looks exciting.

More Happy Customers: Safer Roads in Central Pennsylvania

Lehman Volvo continues to deliver Volvos to happy customers who have discovered the styling, performance and comfort of a Volvo. While we continue to sell a lot of Volvos to loyal customers, we are also seeing a growing number of customers who are buying their first Volvo.

And considering that most Volvos now come standard with City Safety autobrake technology, we are also making the roads of Central Pennsylvania safer. In fact, vehicles equipped with City Safety are involved in 27% fewer accidents than vehicles without it according the to Highway Loss Data Institute. The results show the best kind of accidents are the ones that never happen.

And, if an accident were to happen, our customers can rest assured that they are driving vehicles that are all Top Safety Picks from the Insurance Institute for Highway safety.

So, we are giving customers some fantastic new cars, and in turn, they are helping to make our roadways safer! Consider it a win-win.

More on the Future of Volvo Engines...

In the distant, dark past there was a time when a 4 cylinder engine provided excellent fuel economy and not much else. In 1981, Volvo changed all of that with the introduction of the turbo-charged 4 cylinder. Flash forward over 30 years later and the modern 4 cylinder engine has come a long way.

Even better, the FUTURE 4 cylinder engine will completely remove any thinking that you need 6 or more cylinders. Case in point: Volvo's all-new DrivE T6 engine. It will be super-charged as well as turbo-charged and will deliver over 300 horsepower...all from a 4 cylinder. In addition, the fuel economy will be equally as impressive.

While Volvo hasn't had a 4 cylinder engine in America for over years, they still make them in other markets and when you add up the numbers, Volvo has sold more 4 cylinder cars than any other variant in their history, so it's safe to say, they know a thing or two about making an impressive 4 cylinder vehicle.

Volvo safety: Built into every non-Volvo on the road

If there is one story that shows Volvo is the pioneering force in automotive safety, it’s the story of the 3 point seat belt.

Nils Bohlin, an engineer at Volvo, invented the three-point seat belt in 1959. The 1950s were a time when pilots and racing drivers wore harnesses, but seatbelts – where they were fitted in cars – took the form of a rudimentary two-point waist restraint. In crashes, sometimes these did more harm than good.
The reason the three-point seatbelt is so widely adopted is actually because Volvo opened up the patent so that any car manufacturer could use it in their design. They decided that the invention was so significant, it had more value as a free life saving tool than something to profit from.

Volvo’s managing director Alan Dessell is quoted as saying: “The decision to release the three-point seat belt patent was visionary and in line with Volvo’s guiding principle of safety.”
The man who saved a million lives

Nils Bohlin, inventor of the three-point seatbelt, received a gold medal from the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Science in 1995 and, in 1999, was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame.

Bohlin, a former aviation engineer at Saab who worked on ejector seats, knew an effective belt must absorb force across the body yet be so easy to use even a child could buckle up. His ingenious solution took the form of a combined lap belt with a diagonal belt across the chest. He anchored the straps low beside the seat so the geometry of the belts formed a “V” with the point directed at the floor. That design meant the belt would remain in place and not shift under a load.
According to the latest figures released as part of celebrations surrounding the 50th anniversary of the invention of the three-point seatbelt, it has saved a million lives across the world and prevented even more serious injuries. Reducing your chance of injury or death by at least 50 percent in the event of a collision, it remains the most successful contribution to safety in the history of motoring.

The Future Starts With 4

There was a time when Volvo's line-up consisted of mostly 4 cylinder cars. From naturally aspirated, to turbo-charged 4 cylinder engines, Volvo has sold over 5 million 4 cylinder cars, so they know a little bit about them.

And when looking to the future, Volvo decided to go back to what they knew so well. 4 cylinder engines + turbocharging = fun AND frugal. As Volvo puts it "it's time to stop counting cylinders". Starting with the 2015 model year vehicles, Volvo is unveiling a new generation of 4 cylinder vehicles under the name VEA (Volvo engine architecture) that will provide 6 cylinder power with near-hybrid like fuel economy. How's that for improvement?!

These new 4 cylinder engines will debut in January and will eventually make their way across the entire Volvo line-up. The future is exciting indeed...and it starts with 4 (cylinders).
