Power your life: The Volvo EX90

Image
Power your Life: The Volvo EX90      In recent news, we have just found out that Volvo will be releasing their EX90, an updated version of the XC90, with technology never before seen within a vehicle. As you know, Volvo takes caring for the environment very seriously, and does their best to preserve the earth through the making of their vehicles. Although we as people can care for the environment as well, its hard to remain sustainable with the use of electricity.       While electrification is not bad in all aspects; its increased demand its becoming harder on the grid to emit the energy we need. What can Volvo do to help prevent that from happening?       With the Volvo EX90 comes with bi-directional charging, meaning your car is essentially a powerplant. Your Volvo can now help power home energy needs, power tools, music systems, and more! Bi-Directional charging gives you the choice to make your energy use cheaper, more efficient, AND sustainable! Smart charging will be available o

My 1965 1800S Convertible

Image
"My 1965 Volvo 1800S Convertible"- The Story of Constantine & His 1965 1800S Constantine Kokkinos purchased his first 1965 Volvo 1800S Convertible in 2010. Excited for his new project, the car had come from Zeebrugge, Belgium, and at the time was in very rough shape. Taking roughly three days to drive 480 miles, the front wheel would lock up when the breaks were activated, and the gas tank was so rusted it was leaking gas! Luckily, Constantine made it home safe, and thus, the 12 year restoration began. The 1800S was given minor repairs and then drove to Athens, Greece, where the rest of the restoration would take place. Each project required for the car would take up to 24 months due to preparation, getting parts, and actually doing the job.  The breaks were fixed first. Then, all the break lines, the vacuum power booster, hoses, discs and drums were replaced. The electrical system received new wiring harness and connectors. The generator was replaced, and an alternator w

A New Era of Safety: The Fully-Electric EX90 Volvo continues to innovate their safety standards, to eventually reach their ultimate goal of zero injuries and fatalities within Volvo vehicles during an accident.  Although most of us practice safe driving, there are times when we become distracted, tired, or even stressed. No matter what, these factors can effect the way you drive, and may end up causing an accident. How can Volvo help you when you start to feel this way? With the EX90, Volvo takes the extra step of improving the way their vehicles understand a driver's state. “Our research shows that by simply observing where the driver is looking and how often and for how long their eyes are closed, we can tell a lot about the state of the driver,” said  Emma Tivesten, Senior Technical Expert, Volvo Cars Safety Center. LiDAR, also known as, "Light Detection and Ranging",  is a "  remote sensing program that uses light  to measure ranges with high precision". LiD

The American Chiropractic Association grants Exclusive Endorsement to Volvo for their Seats  Volvo Car USA is the first auto-brand to receive an endorsement from the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) for their well designed seats. The endorsement includes Volvo's entire lineup, from May 2022 to May 2023. After much deliberation and a series of tests, the ACA can confidently state that Volvo makes their seats with the highest level of quality for their consumers.  An endorsement granted by the ACA means the product, in this case, Volvo's seats, are of highest quality. When designing their seats, Volvo Car USA chose to do a collaboration with orthopedic surgeons to make sure their customers were receiving not only a comfortable and high qual

52 Years of Environmental Awareness: Where did it Start?

Image
52 Years of Environmental Awareness: Where did it Start? 52 years ago, Volvo began its journey on becoming one of the most environmentally friendly car companies in the industry. Not only where they focused on safety, but also how they could make their vehicles better overall for customers. This meant: Durability and Sustainability. How did they start to get to where they are now?    Lets go back 20 years ago, when the seeds for our green reputation where planted. In the 1970's, the state of California issued new emission standards for vehicles much higher than those already in place. Car companies everywhere panicked in fear they could not reach those standards, while Volvo was already ahead. When Volvo introduced the 240 model, it "far exceeded the impossible" emission standards, and increased its gas mileage by 5% by doing so. How did they make this possible? They invented the  familiar Lambda Sond system, which is an emission control system that measur

Volvo Saved my Life

Image
Volvo Saved My Life Volvo has a well known reputation for their safety standards, winning an abundance of Top Safety awards throughout the years, as well as pioneering standard safety measures we see in all vehicles today. Ahead of their time, and constantly seeking new technology to keep drivers safe, Many will tell you "Volvo Saved my Life". Where did it start?     Since  1940, Volvo has been ahead of other brands when it came to safety standards. In 1944, Volvo began inserting laminated windshields in all their vehicles, witched helped prevent shards of glass from flying into the driver and passengers when in an accident. The US made laminated windshields a mandatory safety procedure, 25 years after.       In 1959, Volvo saw a huge breakthrough when Volvo engineer, Nils Bohlin, developed the 3-point seatbelt. The seta belt was designed to help keep the driver and passengers from slamming into the interior during an accident. It was not until a decade later that both Swed

Model Year 2023: The Breakdown

Image
Model Year 2023: The Breakdown  Model Year 2023 is fully electrified, including mild-hybrid (MHEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or electric vehicles (BEV). The lineup includes the S60 and 90, V60 Polestar Engineered, V60 and V90 Cross Country, XC40, XC60, XC90, and the C40.  Each vehicle is meant for different lifestyles, making Model Year 23 for everyone! Although, what is the difference between the models? Mild-Hybrid, or (MHEV) vehicles brings electric power to your drive without ever having to charge. Every time you break, the battery takes the recovered braking energy which then it uses to charge itself. A 48V battery and integrated starter generator supports the engine for reduced tailpipe emissions. The Mild-Hybrid is a perfect choice for those just getting started with the electrification process. Plug-in Hybrids (PHEV) are a little different from the Mild-Hybrid. They are Electric cars with a backup plan. Offering two modes: Pure-electric and Hybrid, the choice is up to you dependin

The story of "Cheetah", a 1967 Volvo 122S

Image
In 1967, Bob Blagden purchased a brand new Volvo 122s. When he purchased the car, he claimed it would be his "last new car", and named her Cheetah. No one would believe him, because how would the car last that long? 55 years later, and Cheetah is still on the road today! It was indeed, Bobs last new car.  When Bob first purchased Cheetah, she had 12,091 miles. Today, Cheetah has over 412k miles and is running strong. Cheetah became a staple in Bobs town. Every day after work from 1972 to 2022, the car would be proudly parked on his lawn for everyone to see. "Anyone who lived in Piedmont for the past 50 years will know this car", states Bobs son. From drives to school to vacations, the 122s helped Bob and his family get around safe for 53 years.  53 years is a long time with a car, especially considering it was purchased 5 decades ago! Although in 2020, Bob sold his home in Piedmont and headed for South Carolina. Unfortunately, Cheetah could not make the move and w

Why go Electric?

Image
Why go Electric?  Switching from the conventional gas powered vehicle to an all electric vehicle can be intimidating for some people. A lot of questions start to arise such as "will an electric vehicle fit into my daily lifestyle?" and , "how and where will I charge my vehicle?". Luckily, Volvo offers an electric vehicle for everyone's lifestyle. Whether you enjoy hiking and adventure, or need more room for your growing family, Volvo is there for you.  If you are still not comfortable making the switch to completely electric, Volvo offers a wide variety of mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The mild hybrid does not require any charging, and charges itself when you press on the brake. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are a combination of gas and electric, allowing you to drive completely on electricity in pure-mode, or a mix of both!  The popularity of electric vehicles is on the rise as we see the effects of ever rising gas prices and inflation throughout the US.

What is to come for 2023: New Updates

Image
As the year continues to progress, we will begin to start seeing the 2023 lineup hit our lots. The entire 2023 lineup will consist of mild hybrid, hybrid, and electric vehicles. The   XC90 and XC40 SUVs, as well as the V60 Cross Country, will now come standard with mild hybrid engines (badged B4, B5, and B6). This choice will help Volvo further push their efforts to become carbon neutral by 2040.  There is a Volvo for everyone in our 2023 lineup. The mild hybrid allows a smooth transition from your traditional gas powered car, to a car combined with gas and electricity. There is no need for charging, either. The mild hybrid charges itself simply by pressing the brake.  Plug-in hybrids offer all-electric driving in Pure mode while still providing a traditional gasoline-powered engine. And for those ready to make the jump to electric,  the 402 horsepower, battery electric XC40 Recharge  and C40 Recharge luxury crossover offer zero tailpipe emissions. The 2023 lineup will also be seeing

The all new XC60 B5 and B6 Engine

Image
The 2022 XC60 will now come with the choice of a B5, or B6 mild hybrid engine. As we work hard to reach our 2030 goal of being carbon neutral, the B5 and 6 engines offer the perfect alternative. Although, as we shift from gas powered to fully electric and hybrid vehicles, this can be a little intimidating for folks. With that in mind, , the B5 and B6 engines do not have to be charged like a standard hybrid, and charge when the driver presses on the break. Not only are you getting better fuel economy and helping the environment, the car is easy to maintain!  What do the B5 and B6 engines offer other than better fuel economy and environmental wellness? The B5 engine is a 2.0 liter, four cylinder, turbo-charged engine, with a 48-volt hybrid system. Giving you up to 247 horsepower, this engine will get you far, and fast. The B6 engine is also a 2.0 liter four cylinder, but includes a supercharger. This engine will give you up to 295 horsepower.  Other updates are to be made as well to th

How well do Volvo's hold their value? According to Rolling Magazine

Image
In January, 2022, a 1986 Volvo 245 was sold for $36,500. A lot of people may ask, why that much for an older vehicle? With only 49,000 miles and recent service  updates, the vehicle had relatively no rust, and ran like it was brand new!   Enthusiasts and customers alike will gladly tell you the price that the vehicle was auctioned for was more than reasonable for its value. Someone even claimed to Rolling Magazine that the vehicle "deserves all the love for being the best." But why?  Volvos have always held a high standard when it comes to the safety, durability and longevity of their vehicles. It is not uncommon you see an older Volvo on the road during your daily commute. Even in vintage ads, Volvo Cars have always been known to be passed down from generation to generation simply because they never gave way! "A car like this can easily last you a life time, if you take care of it", claims Rolling Magazine.   A great example comes from a couple who explains to Roll

Volvo Car USA announces 2023 Lineup to be only Hybrid and Electric

Image
To achieve our mission of being carbon neutral by 2024, Volvo Car USA has announced that the entire 2023 line up will consist of mild hybrid, hybrid, and electric vehicles, featuring Google-built in services. For some, the new update may sound intimidating as we slowly see gas powered cars leave the market. However, there IS a Volvo for everyone! Mild Hybrids are a great way to comfortably transition, as they require some gas, but not as much due to its hybrid battery. For those without easy access to charging, mild hybrids offer increased efficiency over their predecessors.  New extended range plug-in hybrids offer all-electric driving in Pure mode while still providing a traditional gasoline-powered engine. And for those ready to leap directly into the future, the 402 horsepower, battery electric XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge luxury crossover offer zero tailpipe emissions. Although Google-built in can already be found in some of our models such as the XC40 Recharge and the XC60, all
