Power your life: The Volvo EX90

Power your Life: The Volvo EX90

In recent news, we have just found out that Volvo will be releasing their EX90, an updated version of the XC90, with technology never before seen within a vehicle. As you know, Volvo takes caring for the environment very seriously, and does their best to preserve the earth through the making of their vehicles. Although we as people can care for the environment as well, its hard to remain sustainable with the use of electricity.

While electrification is not bad in all aspects; its increased demand its becoming harder on the grid to emit the energy we need. What can Volvo do to help prevent that from happening?

With the Volvo EX90 comes with bi-directional charging, meaning your car is essentially a powerplant. Your Volvo can now help power home energy needs, power tools, music systems, and more! Bi-Directional charging gives you the choice to make your energy use cheaper, more efficient, AND sustainable! Smart charging will be available on the Volvo Cars smartphone App once the EX90 is available. Where available, the entire charging process will be automatic and managed entirely by the smart charging functionality in the Volvo Cars app.

Along with being able to charge appliances and other devices, your car will ultimately have the capability to lend a helping hand and give some of its charge to other compatible Volvos. On the flip side, if you’re about to run out of juice, don’t worry. You can accept the same help from other Volvo cars as well.

How will the EX90 help the Grid? The EX90 has the capability of  taking in more energy during times when there’s a surplus of renewable energy, or selling energy back  when there is more demand. If most cars have this functionality in the future, then the grid could be balanced more often. That could increase the overall sustainability of the grid by reducing potential energy waste from renewable sources at times when production outperforms demand.

Volvo Cars USA has mentioned the offer of hardware you will need to use the bi-directional charging features, including a wall box and home energy management system. Adapter plugs to charge other cars will also be available with the EX90.

More information is to come soon as of November 9th, 2022. Please check out our blog for more information regarding the EX90, and look out for a new blog when we have more to share!
