As Safe as a street rod can be....

With the street rods rolling into York county this weekend, we thought we would like to share our idea of the ideal street rod. What you are looking at is an actual street rod project using Volvo's first model, the 1927 OV4 as inspiration.

It's fitting to use a Volvo from this vintage, as American street rods started with vehicles from the same era (Old Model T's, Model A's, 1930s Chevys etc.) as they were cheap and accessible in the 1950s.

However, this Volvo street rod is of course, very unique. Built in 2008, this hot rod Jakob (as the OV4 is known) features custom carbon body and aluminum body panels. The engine is an ethanol-powered Volvo turbo-charged engine with a Volvo 5 speed manual transmission. Suspension is coil-over with gas dampers and the tires are custom-designed Pirellis.

Yes, a lot of work went into this custom street rod. Today's street rods often get the same love, a far cry from the original days of removing fenders and just dropping in a big block V8 and slick tires.
